Our Chairman
Hello and welcome to the website of Norfolk Wherry Brass
I am Mick De’Ath and I am the chairman of Norfolk Wherry Brass. I am not a playing member of the band but proudly accepted the post of chairman in January 2006 when I was elected.
My first involvement with the band was in August 2004 when I had a visit from Dave Cassady. Dave was one of the founder members of the band and also a member of the Potter Heigham Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association where I am the treasurer. Dave told me of this new band and said they were looking for a local, well respected organization, to promote a concert with the band to help them get started, and did I think that RAFA would be interested in doing this.
I, put it to the branch committee and they jumped at the opportunity to do something different in our efforts to collect funds for our annual Battle of Britain Wings Appeal, so we decided to do a Christmas Concert.
That first Christmas concert, in December 2004, was organized by a small committee of four, Dave Cassady and Mike Thorn from the band, and Stan Todd and myself from RAFA. It was a great success and has now become an annual event with the profits being shared evenly between the two organizations.
The band members must have seen something about me they liked as shortly after the second Christmas Concert they asked me to consider becoming their chairman. I readily agreed as, not only were they a group of very talented musicians, but they were genuinely nice people too. Together we have gone from strength to strength as you will appreciate from surfing this website
